Sealing Conduit
How would I seal the top of the pvc conduit so no water gets in. It is 1/2" and has speaker wire coming out of the top for a speaker on a 2x4.
The conduit faces straight up. What would I use? It is standard 14ga speaker wire if that even makes a difference. Links are helpful. Thanks

Glue an outdoor box on top and put something like this on the front,

Being just speaker wire, I'd seal it with silicone or duct seal, if you don't mind the look. Does the bottom of the conduit go into the house?

I would put a couple of ninety's on to form a U. Then, still seal it with silicone or duct seal to keep insects out

That would put the opening of the conduit about a foot away from where the speaker is. I would install a proper outlet box with plate to keep the water from getting in and stuff the box full of insulation so nothing will go in there.

The box seems like a good idea. I think I would just put a cap on it, drill the cap or the pipe from the side and silicone the wire in place......but that's just me.......

That would work too and keep stuff from getting in the pipe.

Buried conduit will get wet no matter how you seal it. I hope your wire is rated for wet location.

And like rjniles said the wire should be rated for wet loacations and should probably also be sunlight resistant unless you plan on replacing it often.

I'm using the same wire I used 10 years ago outside. Its basic clear speaker wire for indoor use. It held up being directly buried for 10+ yrs. until an animal chewed on it. Same stuff I'm using in the conduit I just buried last week. The conduit is just going to keep animals from chewing on it, and keep it out of the sun/weather. |

Would this also work too? "Duct Seal"
It seems this is what electricians use, and I also so this at the top of a utility pole with the wires coming out of conduit. It just seems to me a big PVC box would be "ugly" and annoying up on the top of the post near the speaker. At least I can paint this stuff and have it not "stick out" like a sore thumb. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...1&keyword=duct seal&storeId=10051 |

how about gluing on a service head? The ones for 1/2 and 3/4 PVC aren't that big.
