sealing compound?!

putting an outside light fixture (under a car port). Purchased a waterproof junction box - it says to put sealing compound on the threads of the stoppers i'm sealing up. What is sealing compound? Is this the same as the white cream used in plumbing? is teflon tape ok for this?

thanks!

sealing compound?!

I just use caulk, but if it is under a roof I don't think it will get wet.
