Schedule 40 PVC question
 

I'm running 6 ga THWN wire in buried schedule 40, for a hot tub. It'll be coming out of the ground at the back of the house up to the spa panel and then down from the panel to under the deck to the hot tub. The spa panel is about 5' high and 2' from the edge of the deck.

I've been able to find some info that says conduit that is exposed to damage needs to be schedule 80 or something metal.

Well, can normal use of a residential weed eater cause damage to schedule 40 PVC and if not, am I good with schedule 40 for all of the conduit, even above ground and mainly under the deck? It's also coming out of the ground to connect to the LB going to the main panel.

Another question I have came up while digging the trench for the conduit. I had the utilities marked prior to digging and the only one that was close was the electric. While digging at least a foot away from where it was marked, my cheap labor (son), hit the main sewer line going to the street and cracked it. While we were trying to dig around the sewer line to expose all the damage, we found the electric line underneath the main sewer line (perpendicular to each other).

What this means is that the underground electric I'm running for the spa, 18" deep, will be right over the main underground electric for the house, which ls something like 24" deep. Is this an issue or do I need to move my spa trench? If it's not the electric, I don't know what it would be.

Are you sure that is not gas or water?

No, not sure, but have reasons for thinking it isn't.
I was told by the guy doing the marking of the utilities that the gas was not inside our fence area, so it wasn't an issue. I hadn't considered water, but our water meter is at the street in the front of the house, so I would assume the water line would be coming from that direction.
Pretty confident it isn't gas and due to location, not water either.

Go figure, it is gas.

Gas and sewer, yes. They need to be separated by more than they are.

Gas and water can usually be in the same ditch.

I know a lot of locators, trust me when I say you get what you pay for. If you go with a bigger place that gives guarantees you'll pay more but they're usually a lot more carefull as well.

The gas and sewer are within about a foot of each other, perpendicular to each other, so not, per say, in the same ditch.

My concern now is where to lay my electric that I'm running to the back of the house. The gas line is deeper than what I'm going with the PVC (18") but still I'm assuming I shouldn't bury over top of the gas line, correct?

We had the house built, it was new construction when we got in it 16 years ago, I've found a lot of things I don't particularly like about how they were done.

My locator was free so I got what I paid for.

i can't say for certain what the rules are where you live on the gas and electric, i know here there's a certain distance they need to be apart.
