Save $$ plugging directly into box??

My friend who's opinion I am skeptical about said that electricity is cheaper, by sometimes half as much, when you "plug directly into an electrical box". He lives in a condo and because of all his appliances and electronic music equipment his electricity bill is close to $300/mo. He plans on moving into a warehouse his dad owns at the beginning of the summer so he can practice music more regularly, and he said that "unlike my condo where I have to plug into the wall outlets, at my dad's warehouse I can connect stuff directly to the breaker box, which means I'll play way less for the electricity."

What???

I really know nothing about the subject, but I am confused why you would play more or less just for plugging into an electrical box instead of a wall outlet. I mean if your using 2000w of electricity every month, why would it matter where your plugging in to recieve it? It's gonna cost like $300/mo no matter what, right? (We live in Southern California). I don't know where he got this idea from, but I wanted to ask some experts to put the issue to rest. I would hate for him to start budgeting for his new pad thinking he's gonna save all this money when he's really not.

Thanks

Mistaken is a very polite word for what your friend is. It almost sounds like your friend is talking about bypassing the meter, which is very, VERY illegal.

Your friend should stay as far away from the electrical panel as possible.

“at my dad's warehouse I can connect stuff directly to the breaker box, which means I'll play way less for the electricity."

Hey all you so called experts and my self included we missed the big picture. He will pay less for his use of electric.

His father will pay for it!
