Is it safe to plug in this flourescent fixture?

Hi,

I just made a flourescent ceiling fixture into a stand up light with a plug in for the wall, but I am not 100% sure I did it right and if it is safe to plug in.

Here's the steps...

4 x 4' flourescent tube ceiling fixture
Has 3 firm wires (black, white, green) with copper part sticking out

Bought a 10' cord for plugging into the wall and also the plug

At one end of the cord, I inserted the copper wire from the lights into the wires of the cords (black to black, green to green etc). Since the cord for the wall did not have solid copper wires but rather each wire was made of about 100 very thin wires, I inserted the light's thick solid copper into the 100s of little wires and then electrical taped it closed (all the wires).

Then at the end of the cord that will plug into the wall, I peeled back the casing of the cord, revealing the individual black white and green cords. I then stripped a centimeter or so of the colored rubber away and clasped the bare wire into the metal parts of the plug-in and screwing them closed. Each color was properly corresponded - green to ground, etc.

And now if I plug it in, it should work. But this is my first electrical project so I wanted to be safe...

Do not plug that light in until you have fixed the wireing!!
You need wire nuts to connect the cord to the wires of the ballast.
After you correct that mistake, you will be good to go!
