I want to replace some 20 amp breakers, with double 20 amp breakers in order to gain more circuits. Is this allowed? Thanks

If you mean tandem breakers (two that occupy the space of one), it is allowed IF your panel is designed to accept them and IF you do not exceed the 42 circuit maximum (US only). Look for a model number for your panel. If there are numbers like HOM3040, then it will accept tandems; if it is something like HOM3030, then it will not (only the numbers have meaning).

Thanks to all, I will definately not reach the 42 circuit limit. I just did a house renovation, and I am installing the wires to the panel. The electrician stated that we need to put some double pole breakers in order to have enough circuits for all our wires. I just wanted to make sure it was okay.
