Running Extension Cords From Portable Generator

I have a 5000 Watt portable generator that I am using. I don't want to go to the expense of adding a transfer switch (I will someday), so in the interim I am using a special extension cable rated for the generator I own. Problem is every time I use the generator I have to leave the door to the house partially open to run the cord thru. I had an idea that I would mount a 30 AMP power cord inlet box on the outside of the house and connect it to a similar box on the inside of the house that could be connected to whatever indoor extention cord arrangement I needed. Will that work? If so, what type of outside and inside wall connections would be required?

You need a 20 amp inlet not a 30.

On the inside I would put a twist lock 20 amp outlet and plug in a power distributer.
