running AC unit off generator

Mrrh.

Plug it in. Turn it on and pay attention. Nothing's going to blow up in 10 seconds, and that's about how long it will take you to know if it's going to work or not. Turn it on. Your generator RPM will drop real quick and then hopefully come back up. It either will or it won't, or the breaker will trip. Those are your options. It won't burst into flames and it won't fry anything.

I have never seen anyone come up with so many reasons to reject answers in my entire life.

Manufacturers are *REQUIRED* to include a rating plate on their appliances, and one of the standard fields is AMPS. It's on there, you're just refusing to look for it, or telling us it's not there to inspire further discussion on it.

This does NOT need to be a long or difficult thread.

well i came across a estate sale, tons of wire in different sizes. picked up some construction extension cords, you know the big heavy ones. put my 220 twist lock on one end and a 220 20amp outlet on the other. plug the 16000 btus ac in and it purred like a kitten. i know the 12/3 cable is enough but also picked up some 16/3 cable. going to check if it will work. the 16/3 isnt solid wires. anyway it works. no more sitting around with the tv and lights on in 120 degree temps and no ac. life is good.

I'd pass on the 16/3. What are you thinking?

16/3 on a 30A generator breaker is definitely unsafe. Why would you want to do this?

I think he wants this to be the thread that wouldn't die? He can't be serious... I hope.
