Romex in Chicago


Can anyone tell me why romex is not allowed in Chicago ?

Because code enforcement says so. Personally I like conduit better.

Especially when every business in Chicago belongs to a union. My brother in law resides in Kildeer (Lake County), and even out there they use Conduit.

Romex in Chicago


I imagine that everybody in Chicago has one receptacle and one bare bulb hanging down in the middle of the room because they can't afford anything more.

In reality, all electrical codes are in fact featherbedding by electrical organizations.
How many many people do you know that were fried because their electrical installation was done to 1950's standards.
We have tall buildings stuffed with engineers that have to produce product or else they will be out of a job.
So, produce they do!
