Yes, the insulation on the black wire is ripped open also, right next to the bare ground. It's been this way since it was installed prior to my parents purchase of the house in the mid 1970's. This was the drop to the bathroom switches.

There have been mice that got in the house in the past, but no signs of mice, bats or rodents in this ceiling.

Now the attic, it is filled with bats.

I actually knocked one out of the air with a slingshot, once. It was pure luck.
He was mightily angry and it took a day or so for the scab to form over most of his little head. I put insects into his "temporary quarters" (a jar) but I forget if he ate them.
Now. . .those were good times!:laughing:

I wear a respirator when going into the attic and other protective clothes. Maybe I should start spraying around a fungicide in the attic and surrounding area...
