I need to run some Romex® 6/2 NM-B wire (around 40 feet) from my garage to my basement. One of the walls it's going through is masonry. Does code require I use conduit? If not, is there any harm in running it through conduit? Thanks
I am in the process of planning a generator/transfer box install. I know that 6/2 is overkill but one day I may want to upgrade to a bigger generator and don't want to have to rewire. I want to do the wiring once and do it right
I'm sorry, after reviewing you are correct, I'll be running 6/3. Thanks for catching that before I ordered the wire. The inlet box will be a Reliance PR50. Pretty sure the transfer box will be the Reliance Q510C because a Generac transfer box would require a subpanel. So far the generator will be the Generac XG7000E.
Rjniles is right about how cheap aluminum(AL) is. And AngelArs is right to follow the instructions. Personally, I couldn't find the copper restriction in either instruction manual. However, AL would be a whole lot of extra work. You'd have to research the listing(label) on the terminations and the equipment to see if it's allowed and for torque specs. You'd have to use listed for AL wire connectors (not wire nuts). And use Noalox and a torque screwdriver. If that's fun for you let me know.
Regarding the fire seal, I've seen several videos showing that the caulk burns very easily. Since it can ignite so easily, what is the point of buying and using it?
Are you saying that you have seen videos showing the 3M fire sealant FB136 burning easily ?
Fire sealant is not a caulk, except in a very generic usage of the word.
Not just the 3M brand but other brands as well. In fact there is only one brand that I've seen that does not catch on fire. How can these other brands be a fire seal if they easily catch on fire?
That is firestop expanding foam, not fire caulk. I don't know anything about the foams, never used them.
