Rewiring old house, Hit brace in outside wall, Safe to drill through Bottom Plate.

I am fishing my new wiring. I had to make some new places for boxes so I would be up to code and I had to make a few in the outside walls. I am running into a brace inside this one outside wall. I can't get past it. I spoke with an electrician friend of mine and he stated to go undereath the floor in the crawl space. He said to drill through the bottom plate. Is it safe to drill a hole in the bottom plate? I don't want to harm the structural integrity of my house in anyway and right now there is no wiring coming up from the floor or crawlspace. All wiring is through the attic. Thanks.

Drilling up from the basement or crawl space into a wall is very comomn pratice. No problem. Caulk the hole if you are concerned about critters etc.

Absolutely, drilling through the bottom plate and running underneath is a great idea in your situation.
