Then no EMT in a garage either? I guess that leaves rigid threaded pipe in a single family garage?

No. You can use either ENT or EMT in a garage if it is in a location not normally subject to abuse, like the inside of a wall stud.

For moi.,

For detached garages.
I useally wired in either conduit or MC cables unless the detached garage have enclosed wall cavites then it can be either romex or MC depending on what code it get snagged.

For attached garage.,

Main circital part is make sure you have firewall { typically 3/4 drywall ( some may say 5/8 inch ) } as far for type of cable or conduit it pretty much depending on the set up however with attached garage there is no restriction of numbers of circuits run into garage not like detached garage it must have a single circuit going in there.
