Our house was rewired in 2004 and now the council are telling us it needs doing again, how long does a rewire last? We have grey wires and the new fuse box with electrical smoke alarms into it, PLEASE HELP

Where do you live? Who is the coucil?

A rewire has no expiration date. Shoddy or incorrect work might need to be replaced, but you need to give us a lot more information.

You made an edit to add the following:

I really don't know what you are trying to say here.

This must be the Overlord Council of Brahimiland.

Seriously jumpfor, HOW are we supposed to help you when you provide no details of any substance, LIKE YOUR LOCATION.

A house re-wire can and should last as long or long than the original wiring. Meaning 50-100 years.

If someone of authority is telling you you need to re-wire after 4 years it is likely because something (or everything) is wrong or non-complaint.

I agree, your last sentence only confuses us more.
