Reversing Single Phase AC Motor

Is there any way to add a switch of some sort to quickly change direction of rotation on an AC motor (drill press for example)?

Yes either a 3 phase reversing starter or a drum switch.

While a drum switch will certainly work, a two pole toggle switch that's rated for the HP of the motor will work too.

I'll need to know the motors lead numbers; most likely they are T1 through T5 and T8.

Post the lead numbers, and I (or one of the other motor guys) will post how to connect the switch. It's not very hard.

What type of motor ?
single phase ?
Three phase ?
Universal motor ?
Or induction motor ?

This is exactly what I was thinking. I'll get you the wiring specs tomorrow. Is there anyway a foot pedal could be incorporated where it's forward without hitting the pedal but reverses only while your foot is in the pedal? Does the switch you suggest have to be on off on or can it be on off?

Thanks
Aaron

A foot pedal could be used, but it'd involve a relay which would have to be mounted in a separate box.

The switch can be either fwd-off-rev or fwd-rev and on-off with another switch.

A basic standard single phase motor cannot be reversed while it's running. It has to be mostly stopped in order to change direction of rotation. This is because the start winding needs to be engaged for rotation direction.
