Residential wire troughs.

I'm working on rewiring my 1950's home.

I have most of it done and now working on the kitchen and utility room. The kitchen is over the utility room and with the amount of wiring that is needed it would be nice to use a wire trough or a sub panel.

Between the 2 rooms I will need 9 20amp, 2 30amp, and a 50amp.

I don't mind drilling the joist, but I would need to drill 65 of them and then drill the 8 thick wooden beam.
I have thought about using 2 runs of 2 pvc, but you can not run romex in pvc pipe
I was thinking about using pvc guttering, but unsure how that would fly with protection from physical damage.
I know run the wiring between 2 peaces of wood attached to the joist, but I tried that and it looked bad.

Any sugestions?
