Residential-only code book or book recommendation?

Here in KY, it looks like we're on 2005 NEC. Just wondering if there's a code book that's residential-only, or another book that could be recommended that deals mostly with the residential side in a code-approved manner? There's a lot of stuff in the NEC that I won't need, and it's hard to know where to start/focus on.

Residential-only code book or book recommendation?

Well, the International Residential Code deals only with 1 and 2 family dwellings. But it isn't a complete electrical code, and refers you back to the NEC.

If you're needing a guidebook, the best I have ever seen is the IAEI's (Int'l Ass'n of Electrical Inspectors) One and Two Family Electrical Systems book. Tons of pictures, based on the NEC, and language that doesn't read like tax law.

home depot has code-checklist books as well as residential guides to wiring.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'd seen those books at the box stores before, but had read that a lot of them have bad/outdated info, so wasn't sure if any were worth checking out.

I bought the NEC 2005 handbook, best book I think
I also have another wiring book that my wife had at her condo

The B&D has an update version for 2008 so the information should be current. Check Amazon for the latest. Also, Electrical Wiring: Residential by Ray Mullin is good.

I am not sure where you live, but I am aware that Home Depot does carry the condensed or simplified version of the up to date 2006 to 2010 Electrical code if that helps any.
