replacing wall mounted light fixture

I want to replace a wall mounted light fixture that has a plug with one that does not have a plug. What do I do with the extra wires?

What do you mean by a plug?

Are we talking about a wall sconce?

Perhaps a pic would help.

Most old light fixtures that incorporate a receptacle in them have wires for the recep and wires for the light, all coming out of the light. But, they typically were wired with a hot, neutral, and sometimes a ground coming out of the wall, and all the wires were tied together in the box. Unless something else is going on, you should only have a black, white, and ground coming from the panel to feed the light.

What is coming out of your box or wall?

I would suggest this:

1)turn off breaker
2)remove fixture
3)take PICTURES and WRITE DOWN what color wires are connected to there
4)post that info here
