Replacing Janitrol heat pump thermostat

I am trying to replace a Janitrol thermostat with a Honeywell RTH6350. The Janitrol had wires White-connected to W2, Brown-connected to E, Green-connected to G, Red-connected to R, Orange-connected to O, Blue-connected to C, and Yellow-connected to Y. I used the alternate heat pump wiring diagram on page 25 I think of this online manual.

http://customer.honeywell.com/techli.../69-2416ES.pdf

I left the C or Blue wire disconnected, Connected Red wire to R-with jumper between R and Rc, W2 to Aux, Yellow to Y, Green to G, E(brown) to E, Orange to O/B.

With connected as is the compressor will not come on, was working with old thermostat. Only the inside fan is coming on. Any ideas what I might have done wrong?

Is it possible I blew a fuse? I reset the breaker didn't help. Would the inside fan still come on if the low voltage fuse is blown?

Some units are configured to make the air handler fan run continuously when the control wiring fuse is blown. You might want to test for 24 Volts to ensure the control voltage is present.

Well the air handler fan does not run continuously, at least I don't think it does. It is off for the first couple minutes (user manual says to wait 5 minutes for compressor to come back on), then it will cycle on, when set to cool or heat. It doesn't shut off, figured because it is not cooling down the room. I tested the voltage between the red and the disconnected blue (common?) wire and the meter reads 28V. That's within range correct?

Went back to the house this evening and double checked my wiring with the Honeywell installation guide and everything looks good (I think anyway).

Set thermostat to cool and waited five minutes. Went outside and I notice a humming sound coming from the compressor, sounds like an electrical hum, like its receiving voltage but can't start. I turned it off after hearing that. Think I will make a service call, but was wondering if anyone has an idea what could be wrong.

Edit: I pulled the cover for the air handler and I didn't see any fuses or circuit boards inside. Just a few switch/relay looking things and a bunch of wires.

This is the old thermostat if it helps any. Janitrol HPT-18-60. All wires connected as stated in first post. No jumpers installed. The hidden label is W2.
