Question

Replacement lighting - MR-16 halogen for incandescent

Can I take an MR-16 halogen fixture and just wire it in where there was a regular incandescent light fixture, circa 1979? That's what I did and now (after roughly a year) the MR-16 won't turn on. First thing, of course was to try a new bulb.....no dice. My little cheapo outlet tester says that there is juice to the fixture and it responds appropriately with the flipping of the switch. I got a new wired socket thinking it might have been an oxidation issue, but the new one gives the same indications. Ideas?

Thanks

A circuit needs a complete path to operate. The hot can be intact but without a way to complete the circuit the light will not work. Have you checked the white wire connections?

While there is no difference between the fixtures a lot of newer fixtures will require an insulation value higher than you have and should not be used.

Most MR-16 bulbs operate at 12 or 24 Volts. You may have a transformer issue.
