Replace wire nuts?

Should wire nuts be replaced when removed? For example, I've removed several ceiling light fixtures to install vinyl ceiling. When those fixtures are reinstalled, should I replace the wire nuts when reconnecting the wires?

I'm asking this because my neighbor (who BTW is not an electrician) was over here yesterday to see what I was up to and he says he's sure the nuts must be replaced whenever they are removed. (Personally, it would seem to me that if the nut tightens down, it should be OK -- but I'm not an electrician, either!)

As long as they tighten down you are good to go.

The only reason I have seen where they would not tigheten is if a piece of wire was stuck up inside the cone. A quick look to make sure it's clean and clear....works every time. Like Darren says....if they tighten...they are good.

The only time I don't reuse is if they are the ones that are plastic inside as well...typically the small gauge nuts....on those, after about one use, the plastic threads are pretty dull.....

But then again, I don't like useing the ones that are plasitic inside.
