Remove old light fixture (hanging)
I am trying to replace an outdated hanging light fixture to a normal flush mount fixture. I've replaced several fixtures and know how to do it once removing the old one. However, I cannot remove this old fixture. The base will not spin loose and I see no other way to remove the fixture. It's an old house and this fixture could be several decades old. Is there some trick to remove the base and fixture for old hanging lights? I can send a picture if anyone requests it. Thanks.

Post a pic. The cowl either unscrews or snaps off or has a nut holding it.

"Error on page" every time I press the attachment link button...

Attachment button works fine for me. Another box opens and asks where the pic is located.

It doesn't work for me. Can you PM me or let me know how to PM you so I can send it via normal email? Thanks.

Center where the chain is attached and the wire comes out should unscrew letting the entire fixture and cowling down.

OK I tried that before and it wouldn't budge. I didn't want to force it. But if that's where it is, I'll get pliers and try again. Thanks.

OK it took a wrench and torque to get the center screw off but the cowling (part flush to the ceiling) still won't budge. Before I start chipping away at the ceiling around it, please confirm that you don't think there's anything else holding it in place up there. Thanks.
