Question

Remove a 3 way switch

I have a bad dimmer switch. I have 2 other switches that control the light. They are standard non dimmers. I want to just bypass this dimmer and close it up. Which of these do i connect to which? Do i just connect all the black to black, ETC...? There are 3 sets of wires coming into this box and one of the black wires is just hanging out in the back connected to nothing.

Thank you.

Connect the black wire on the bottom to either the black or white wire that is connected to the dimmer.
Put a cap on the extra wire.

Remove a 3 way switch

Either one? would one be better than the other? Or are those 2 the wires that run to the other power on the other switches? I am good with electronics but not this wiring. Thanks!

It would be a lot easier to just put a three way switch in. Since you have a total of three switches controlling the fixture one of them is a four way. In order to maintain proper operation you need to change the four way to the a three way and then do some rewiring. Since I don't see any three wire cables in that box you also some non standard wiring.

Worked like a charm. Put black on black to help keep things in order. Also taped the one you said to connect to the other ones incase i want to throw in another dimmer later on.

Joe- This is our storage/junk room i use for storage of all the PC parts i have. not used often at night to bother with replacing. Just wanted it to work and since the dimmer died it prevented the lights coming on at all. Thanks for the replies!!
