Use home automation products

Wouldn't it be easiest to just simply replace the switch with a remote controlled one?

There are dozens of them that would work, we use them every day in home automation. Consider the type of lighting you are using first, identify if a neutral is in the same box, then just replace the existing switch with an HA switch using any of the following technologies (X-10, Insteon, Zwave, or UPB, infrared even, plus there are wireless proprietary ones as well).

I can post some recommendations for different products if this is not a dead thread, but in a nutshell there is not much to it after you answer the aforementioned questions, make your choice based on those and wire it in.

Then choose a remote in the same technology or get one that can send receive infrared and use a universal remote or even an android/iphone. You could even use a PC or laptop to BE the remote and control it from your PC or over the internet anywhere in the world.

Just some suggestions!
