Remote control for pump operation

Hi,
I'm trying to install a remote control switch for my water pump (1HP 220V). I have an electronic remote control switch and transmitter which i installed initially directly to the pump but shuts off after a few minutes. My hypothesis is because it cant carry the load. I was thinking of intalling a relay between the controller and the pump. Is this the right approach and if so what kind of relay and rating should i use. Can also pls throw in a wiriing diagram for the relay.

Many thanks,
Donnie

Can you give us locations of where you want everything?

the transmitter powering a relay sounds fine. Go to your local electric supply they should have a universal one that can work.
