Remodel recessed fixtures for thick ceilings

Hey y'all!

I want to install several 4-inch remodel can lights in my kitchen. The ceiling construction is 1/2 inch drywall over lath and plaster. I installed remodel cans in another part of the house with similar ceiling construction and getting the clips in was hell! I was under the impression that there was a manufacturer that produced cans with a screw-clamp that worked better with thicker and/or irregular ceilings.

Any help?!
Thanks!

I've run into that before and you're right, it's a pain. The remodeling cans locally available at the supply houses were all designed for 1/2" - 5/8" drywall. We're in the same area. I'd call Evergreen Oak, Graybar, Advance, Steiner, Crescent and some other supply houses and see if they can get something that will work for you.

Two things, the old ceiling can be broken out above the drywall so the clips will work or use the Progress P187 series housings. You can adjust the clamp height.
