I've decided to post a laugh picture to get us all off to a better day. I'll do this for a while.... should be fun.
Most of these type photos come off the internet so I can't be sure of the authenticity but we can laugh at them for their resourcefulness none the less.
******* scaffolding....I hope CowboyAndys wife doesn't see this when he gets ready for some more remodeling. The Chimney construction is something I've never seen. Anybody ever seen that? Looks like they ran out of hay.
I've seen it before. In fact, my house and detached garage both have chimneys made with these blocks. They are roughly 18 inches square and have a square void in the center big enough to run a clay tile liner through. My house's chimney has these blocks extending up through the attic, then they change to the standard bricks so it provides a much more finished look when it is in sight on the roof. I can still buy them at my local masonry / landscaping supply house.
It is! Thanks for brightening up my day!

And my house and garage have chimneys made of similar block that have a circle cast in the center that acts as the flue. No liner. Problem is that after years of use, the acid in the soot erodes the mortar away and you have a hole directly to the outside of the chimney. That style was outlawed several years ago, but there are still plenty of them around. Hope he doesn't catch his hay crop on fire 2 storys up. That could be hard to explain to your insurance agent.
I was only back there for a few minutes. That was one damn big dog you got.. didn't notice him till I heard that growl coming from the crawl space. You really should let people know that your dog doesn't play well.
Hey thanks for the chimney information, actually looks like a darn good way to go.
