Recommend single box control for bath fan/light

For a regular old Nutone, Hunter, or Broan vent-fan-with-light combo, what do you recommend for a single-box control that can operate the light, and operate the fan with an auto-turn-off of some kind?

If the fan is on the same switch as the light people will turn the fan off before all the humidity can be exhausted. You also may not want the fan on just because you need light. I prefer single switches for each.

I think you missed what the OP is saying. He wants separate controls for the fan and light, but I think he's saying he only has a single gang box.

The only thing I could find that matches what you describe is a dimmer/timer combo, which is costly, and won't work if you want to use CFL light bulbs.

My suggestion is to either forego the timer you want and settle for a stack switch, or replace the single gang box with a 2 gang box.

Lutron makes a variety of stacked switches.
