Recessed lights: What are the differences between LED trims and LED modules?

I am going to add ~25 recessed lights all over my house. Selecting which one to go is a big decision. Now I couldn't figure out what the difference is between those LED recessed light trims and the LED modules for recessed lights.

The difference is about $29.00

Other than that, they essentially do the same thing.

You might want to look into GU24 bases. It's a 2-pin base that both CFL and LED can have. And they qualify for title 24 in California.

Gives you the flexibility of using either CFL or LED.

I checked the title 24 but it seems that the rebates are all for businesses and not residential. Or is there anything I missed? thanks! If there are rebates helping offset my purchase of LED lights, that'll be very great!

But the module thing (the more expensive one) seems a bit studier with the fins though.

Title 24 has nothing to do with rebates....it referese to energy effeciency...

For example, for a fixture to be considered high effeciency, it can not have an Edison socket....even if you put in LED's or CFL's with the Edison base. Reason being, someone can come back later and put in incandescents.

For rebates, check with your local power company and the county.

For the most part, don't expect a whole lot.....

Personally....unless you need the ability to dim them....I would go CFL with the GU24 base. You can add LED's later once the price comes down.

But as I calculated, going the CFL route isn't much cheaper:

CFL cost = can + CFL bulb ($2) + Trim ($22)
LED cost = can + LED trim ($40)

The difference is only $16. Thus I go with LED. Plus, I would really like to contribute to the LED industry -- I got my Ph.D from LED research.

The LR6 (the module one) is Cree's heavier duty version. It has more heatsink surface area and as such can be pushed further to be made brighter. Its 650 lumens versus 575. The CR6 is essentially the same lamp, just a little less beefy. It has 575 lumens, but also uses slightly less electricity at 10.5w.

You'll likely never see a difference between the two as long as you have enough lumens for the space.

BTW, the CR6 is at Home Depot under the EcoSmart name for $30.
