Recessed lights rough in

Hi everyone,
I am installing recessed lights (halo) over my kitchen cabinets. What is usually the rough in on these light? I want the light to reflect the counter tops. I don't have the cabinets yet, so I need to know more or less how far from the wall should I place these. Thanks

The top cabinets are 12" deep, and the bottom cabinets are 24" deep. That said, you're centering the light over that second 12" of counter sticking beyond the top cabinets. That fixture would be centered 18" out from the wall in that case. NOW... I prefer to bring the fixture in a tad bit more towards the wall than that so that you're not standing in your own shadow so much. The upper cabinets often get crown mold around the top. I try to bring the fixtures slightly inboard of that "centered at 18 inch" recommendation if I can, as long as the trims won't interfear with the crown mold. Have fun...
