I was wondering if there is a way to tell if a recessed lighting housing is rated IC or non-IC, just by looking at the housing from either:
- view of housing in home at the ceiling (preferred option)
- view of housing up in attic, etc.
like a posted label on housing or by shape, design of housing.
I'm buying a home and the home inspection mentioned that the recessed lighting fixtures are in contact with the insulation, likely not with proper clearance (for non-IC) but didn't mention what type it was.
But then, the inspector wasn't able to look at the housing from the attic because insulation was covering joists and there were no walk boards.
I'd preferably like to leave things alone, not have to make changes myself or through a contractor. Hoping that they're IC ones. I plan to use standard CFL bulbs in there and not special recessed light bulbs.
