recessed light near gas pipe?

I am putting in recessed lights, and am almost done, but there's a gas pipe right between the floor joists in the only usable location at that end of the basement. It's a small can and fits between the joist and the pipe, but I want to know if this is safe to do? There would be about 2" between the pipe and the can.

Chris
