Receptacles in plaster on brick construction

I've searched these forums and elsewhere trying to find a definitive answer to this question -

What materials can be embedded in plaster?

From my reading of the NEC, the following are OK:

AC
MC
NMC (whatever that is)

I'm not clear on other conduits. Is PVC OK?

My house is plaster on brick on brick and the bricks are solid. As such, I have hardly any receptacles on exterior walls. I desperately need one in my office and would like to pop off the baseboards and embed whatever wiring method is simplest and code-compliant to extend from an existing receptacle.

Bonus question: what type of shallow boxes work well in this application?

Easiest way would be to use a surface mounted system such as Wiremold along the baseboard.

I'm not a big fan of the aesthetics of raceway...

A few hours of trying to cut into the plaster and brick will make you a fan:yes:.

Last house I did with plaster over brick was a royal PITA! The Wiremold on the baseboard can be painted to match and once furniture is in place, you won't even notice it.
