recently installed 3 way switch stopped working

Hi

I replaced a bunch of 30 year old electrical switches in my house a few months ago. One of the switches I replaced, was a 3 way one that needed a lot of force applied to stay in the ON position.

So now the new switch in that same spot has the same issue. The old and new switches are different brands and styles. Could it be a sign of an electrical issue? Or most likely just coincidence?

This switch is next to a door that produces some vibration when being closed. Can this vibration be affecting the switch? Also, this switch is right next to 2 other switches...never had a problem with those.

Thanks!

Sounds like another bad switch. I can't think of any electrical issue that cause a switch to go bad.

What do you mean by that ?? Is the switch toggle moving out of the on position ?? Or, the handle isn't necessarily moving, but the light may not come on. Then by adding a lot of pressure the light comes on.

If it is the latter, I would look for a loose connection somewhere in the box. I would check every wire nut connection, black, red, or white.

When I apply pressure to the top of the switch, it does change positions, but the light won't turn ON unless I consistently apply more pressure with my finger. The moment I stop pressing, the light goes off again.

This happened with both the 30 years old switch and the replacement one (after a few months)

Sounds like a bad switch. Brand doesn't make any difference

This is a 3-way? So "on" can be either switch position? Does it happen in both switch positions?

I replaced the switch and it works fine now (of course). I hope it doesn't happen again in a few months.

Thanks everybody for your input.
