Re-wire dual pole switch to single pole
OK, I purchased an automatic light switch timer at Home Depot that I want to install on our front outdoor lights for when we are away, the problem is, the switch is only for single pole switches and our front lights are on a dual pole system. The main switch is next to the front door, and the other one is tucked into an unused corner of the garage. Is there a simple way to re-wire the switches to make the switch near the front door a single pole switch so that I can install the timer, and disable the switch in the garage? Thanks!

Are you saying that you're able to control the outdoor light from both the front door and the garage? This would be a 3-way switch circuit, and afaik very uncommon in those two locations.

Yes, I can control the lights from both those areas. So it would be a 3-way switch.

Simply remove the switch from the garage, and connect the common lead and 1 of the other wires together with a wirenut. Cap off the remaining wire.

At the front door, identify the capped off wire coming from the garage, and cap it off as well. The remaining 2 wires at the front door now only require a single pole switch.
