quesions on wire

I am wondering what the differance is between #4 gauge wire labled THHN and TNWN is. Also wanted to know if it would hurt to run THHN underground in conduit.

Thanks in advance...

The "W" means its rated for WET locations, so to answer your question, yes its a problem to run THHN underground, but most if not all wire is dual rated these days.

For the sake of completeness to the post, make sure you are using the right conduit type and the correct size. It should be rigid non-metallic or rigid metal conduit if it's underground. Size will depend on how many wires you are running.
