Pushmatic load centers

I have an older house with a pushmatic load center. I want to replace it this summer but for now I just need to know how to turn a circuit on and off. Obviously it's called pushmatic because you push it some way or another. I just don't want to end up electrocuted by doing something stupid. I'm replacing my dishwasher and I need to hardwire it. Obviously I need to shut off power to that circuit. Do I just push the breaker to turn it off and then push it again to turn it on? I have a voltage sensor to test the wires before I do anything. But considering I've always had modern type circuit panels I'm at a loss as to how a pushmatic works.

That's all you do my friend.

When you push it the breaker will pop out (up) towards you. This is the off position. Push again and it is back on. (hot)
