Pump battery backup for wood stove
 
we recently had a solar water system installed in our house, while the guy was here installing it, we had him design and build a system for our wood fireplace that heats our water during the winter. He did a great job for his first time designing something of the sort, but we ran into one flaw, when the power cuts out so do the pumps, and when the pumps stop, the glycol in the tubes heats up and can burst the release valves downstairs.

what i am trying to do is install a battery backup(kinda like ones for a pc but good and last for hours maybe days.) one that when the power cuts out it just kicks the pump on or even one that keeps the whole system up.

I'm would like to use a 50-100 amp hr battery backup(we can't find amperage or wattage on the pumps so i want extra)

What would i need? any ideas or suggestions?

change your pump for a 12v model, and install a small charger on the battery bank that is always connected, this will a lot more efficient than a 120v battery running on a ups or inverter

This would be my advice as well, provided the 12V pump uses an electronically commutated motor (no brushes). If it has brushes, it won't last long.

If this is not viable, a 120V pump fed by a UPS will work.

You'll need to oversize the UPS a bit, a typical AC motor requires more current to start than to run. The starting current of a standard capacitor-start motor is about 6X its running current. A PSC or shaded pole one will need about 3X.
