Is the price right?

Just bought a house that was a foreclosure. They left the 200 amp box with wires hanging out and no breakers. Long story short, replacing with a new box and also changing outside meter box to a combo box with outside breakers. Will replace wire from meter to weather cover only. Electrician says 1500 for him to do. I figure materials alone are only 500-600. Does this seem high to anyone but me? I live in N. Georgia. I'm new to site. Thanks for your input!

For things like a service you cannot simply break it down into material and time on the job.

If you are getting a new panel, AND a new meter/main/panel outside for $1500 I'd say you are getting an incredible deal.

Welcome from Newnan!

Is the electrician going to trace the exsistin wires as well as install a new meterbase/disoconeect, and a main panel?

Sounds like a deal!

Get 3 quotes and check license before signing a contract.

I'm not so tight that I don't want to pay an honest wage, just wasn't sure what that honest wage would be! Thanks for the input. I'm more into car repairs etc... new territory for me!

Yes. he will install new panel, check wires, and install new meter box with new 200amp wire from meter to weatherhead. (Already have 200amp wire from panel to old meter)

jbfan... new to Ga by the way. I know where Newnan is though. I drive a truck for a living and used to go through there to Atlanta from Dothan AL. Org. from Missouri and came here on a job transfer. Living in Jasper now and loving it. Beautiful country.
