Powering a new single pole switch off of an existing three way switch set?

Hello,

I have an outdoor motion light that I have installed (blk/wht/gnd), with a new switch (single pole), next to a hallway switch beside my side door entrance. I have wired the white wires together (wire nut) and the ground wires together (wire nut) and am wondering how to get it so that the single pole switch has on/off capabilities all the time. The way I have it now, the outdoor sensor light will only work when one of the three way switches (two in the hallway, one by the door) is in the on position and the other is in the off position. Then, my single pole switch to my sensor light will work (on/off like a normal switch). My three way switch has a red traveller wire, a gnd wire and two black wires and I have connected each black wire on the three way to a wire nut (pig tail) for easy connect/disconnect at the wire nut. The black from the single pole has gone to each of these wire nuts, but no luck yet. The other black from the single pole goes out to the outdoor sensor light. Again, all the whites are wired together. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, -J

You have to determine which 3 way switch has the power coming into it.
You may have the switch that feeds the light.

You need to tell us all the wires in the switch box. It might not be possible to make it work.

Powering a new single pole switch off of an existing three way switch set?

Hello again, Thanks again for the replies. I ended up wiring the outdoor sensor light (white black ground wires) to an existing outlet. That was much easier to do and everything is working great now. Thanks for the assistance. -J
