power source for recessed lights

I am planning to install 6 recessed lights in a soffit I am building in my living room. The house was built in 1938 with a little knob and tube here and there but mostly armored cable. I would like to run a new circuit from an existing subpanel but that would be very difficult due to the location of the panel and construction of the house. Very difficult but not impossible. What are some other options to power these lights from a new switch? The room is on a 20 amp circuit with 5 outlets and 1 ceiling fan. That's it. I'm looking for opinions as to the best/easiest way to do this. Thanks.

That question is impossible to answer without physically walking around in the room, and evaluating the spaces above and below the room. Each installation presents a unique set of criteria.
