Power socket off lighting circuit?

Hi,
I need to wire in a power socket for a wall mounted bedroom TV but there is no ring main nearby. Is it acceptable to take it off the lighting circuit or is it against regs?

Don't take the circuit from the lighting circuit. It would work, but you would be better served if you tapped a receptacle circuit.
Since there is no limit to receptacles on one residential circuit, this would be the way to go.
It's a good practice to keep lighting circuits and receptacle circuits seperate.
The light may only have a switch leg and not a continuous hot. Thus the light switch would operate the TV....LOL

Your guys codes are way diffr'nt from ours if you don't have a receptacle device limitation. Ours are limited to 12. I agree, pulling it off the lighting cct is "handyman style".:furious:

Dont get me wrong on this one i think this OP is from UK because the wording saying ring main that surefire that is not a normal North American system is.

Merci , Marc

Sorry all,
I thought I was on a UK forum- your comments mean nothing to me. UK regs changed in March 2006? to conform to European legistlation it was knowledge of these latest regs I was seeking.

Sorry:(
