power outage

While I wasn't here to see it and it sounds sketchy . . . . . we lost power downstairs and when the power went back on the fan started to work again but the lights attached to the fan never came back on. We did the obvious and changed the light bulbs. The lights dont work but the fan does. What are the odds that if I put a new light fixture on the fan, I can fix the problem? Thanks for the help.

try repairing

take down the light fixture. it should have 3 to 4 screws holding it up. check connections and to see if ther's a short.
if all looks ok it might be in the switch, either at the wall or the fan.
if that doesn't do it check for power at the connection. if none, no repalcement will help and you might need to replace entire fan.

Thanks for the advice. You are not going to believe this but . . . we lost power again on Friday night for 6 hours. When I woke up, the lights had mysteriously started working and have been fine since. Is there some kind of demon at work here or do you have a rational explanation for this?

are you losing power in the entire house, including your neighbors or just in certain spots in your house? i was wondering if it was a bad breaker.

Is there a remote attached to this fan?
