Power Out

I put new can lights into my unfinished basement the otehr night, and then hooked up the light sin another room from that circuit. The can lights worked fine, untill i hooked up the other florescents, the florescents came on tehn everythign went out the breaker did not trip, but there is no power from the main line to the light fixtures. what is the problem did the breaker go bad without tripping, what do i need to do?

Three possibilities come to mind right away.

1 loose connection some where.

2 breaker sometimes trip and it is not obvious. turn off all the breakers one at a time and turn them back on.

3 there is s gfi somewhere in the circuit that has tripped.
