Potlights in recroom

Just joined and this is my first post.....be gentle .

As the title suggests, my plan is to have potlights in my recroom. There may be as many as 21 lights to install.

Can I only have a maximum of 12 lights on one circuit, or may I use one dedicated circuit for the 21 lights at 50W (1050W)?

Thank you in advance.

Potlights in recroom

The 12 items on circuit is a canadian rule and not an american rule.

There is a but to the rule and that is if you know the connected load you can load up the circuit to 80% of the circuit. So that would be 1440 for a 15A breaker and you have to use the max rateing of the fixture for this calculation, so if you are planning on useing 50W bulbs but the fixture is rated for 100W bulbs you have to use 100 in your calculations. Only the lights can be on this circuit, so if you added just one plug you are limited to 12 items.

Potlights in recroom

Darren,
Thank you for your quick response, it is appreciated.

I did not think of the maximum rated wattage of each fixture. I assumed that there was a way to have this many lights on a circuit, but you know what they say about assumiung.

I planned on having a "lights only" circuit for the recroom anyway. There is a lot of room in my panel so it is not an issue.

Thank you again for your response.
