Photovoltaic System Grounding Requirements

Hello,

I am installing a 3kW grid tie PV system on my roof. As far as I know I will need to run a solid ground conductor from the array (panels and micro inverters) to my house grounding rod.

Problem is the following:

Ground rod is located in front of house by main water line. continuous conductor runs from there all the way through the house to the back where the main service panel is located. There it connects to the main service panel's ground terminal.

The PV system (power generating wires) will tie in at the main service panel behind the house.

Option 1) run the EGC to the front of the house to the ground rod - distance too long, unpractical

Option 2) Drive new ground rod behind house, connect it to main service panel and also run solar EGC to rod - unpractical because area behind house by panel is covered with concrete and visibility of EGC is also a concern.

Another option I though of, but was not sure if possible:

Option 3) run EGC from PV system to main service panel and irreversibly splice it to incoming solid ground conductor which comes in from the ground rod in front of the house.
It looks like irreversible splices are allowed but I am not sure if this is possible in this case in this location.

AHJ still goes by NEC 2008.

Part V. of Art. 690 isn't that large, try giving it a read over.

I thought about that, but then I thought that there are probably other articles that apply to this as well. I was hoping some has had similar prior experience

Could I also get other people's opinion in the meantime?

Thanks everybody!
