Phone Junction Box Ground

I want phone service installed in my new home. According to the phone company, I am required to provide a ground at the phone junction box. NEC 800.100 supports this assertion.

Unfortunately, it would be very difficult to run wire from the location of the phone junction box to the service entrance panel. However, I can easily install wire from the location of the phone junction box to the crawlspace under my house. I could attach directly to the grounding electrode conductor, which is readily accessible in the crawlspace. My question is:

Does the NEC allow me to connect an equipment grounding conductor directly to the GEC, or must all equipment grounding conductors run back to the service entrance panel and bond at that location?

Thanks

Ayuh,... Is there atleast a square Inch or two of soil around the new Phone J-box,..??

If so,... Buy a ground rod,+ drive it home,... Perfect ground, Where needed...

You're attemping to estabish Ground for the phone system, not the electrical system...
No need to concern yourself with the Main Entrance...

Absolutely the wrong info.

The phone ground (and cable and satellite) must be all be tied to the main electrical grounding system.
Are you referring the ground cable from the panel to the ground rods? If so you may connect to the nearest accessible location of the ground system.

Since my NID sits right under the Meter Pan, we just ran some #8 to the ground rod, since only the NID & CATV are right there. Inside, I would still install a whole house Surge Protector, that also incorporates CATV & Telco into it for that extra step.

The phone company needs a ground at the junction. Put the first junction right by the electrical pane and from their, its all fun and games.

I thought it was the Phone Company's responsibility to install a ground and bond their service during install? That is the way I have always seen it in both NJ and IL.

not legal to put phone ground inside your breaker panel period.you can attach to cold water pipe or a ground rod.the phone guy's need access to where you connect it.if you have to install it it needs to be a #10 solid wire.leave plenty of slack so phone co. can connect to de-mark.
