Phone jacks not working upstairs, all good downstairs.

I've done some searching for answer but couldn't find anything related directly to my question.

About a week ago, the phones upstairs suddenly stopped working. I've tried all(3) jacks, i've tried unplugging all the phones and then plugging them back in(was told to do this by the telephone company that it should reset the system). We do have an alarm system running through the phone jack in the master bedroom, however that was installed several years ago.
All jacks downstairs are working OK.

I do not have a volt meter so i haven't tested for voltage yet, however I'm getting one either today or tomorrow, depends on how work goes.

Any other ideas on what could have happened?

Sounds like a failed connection at one of the jacks, or a break in the wiring (critter chewed it, perhaps?).

Older phone wiring was run from A to B to C etc. You need to check the connections behind the plate.

I'll check both, thanks

As Jim said look for bad connections behind the other jacks. You won't need a volt meter just use a known good phone and check for dial tone.
