Pendant lighting...

I want to install 2 pendant lights and drop them exactly where there are 2 can lights above my kitchen sink. How difficult do you guys figure it will be to take out the can lights and install 2 normal gang box for over head fixtures? Any standard electrical codes or safety issues to be aware of?

I am thinking I unscrew and pull the old can lights out, then I would need to put some wood bracing inside the soffit area to hold the gang boxes and then connect some flexible conduit to the boxes...and then I would need to put some drywall/mud up to cover the 6" holes down to the smaller openings.

Are there more things to consider, or is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you've got your plan formulated. This is one instance where those "spreader bar" type old work ceiling fan box mounting devices could come in handy. Remember, do not bury any connections.

The ceiling fan spreader thing is something I didn't even consider, but I think it might work... I could probably just use 1 brace and put 2 gang boxes on it. I'll have to look at the how the soffit is configured once I take the can lights out.

THANKS!
