Painting or Replacing Canister Ceiling Lights

I have existing recessed canister lights in my ceiling. Is it possible to paint recessed canister ceiling lights that are black in the recessed portion, surrounding the bulb. I would prefer them to be white since the ceiling is white. Can they be painted and if so, what kind of paint? If not, is the only option to have them replaced and can that be done without tearing apart the ceiling? Finally, is there some advantage to having black rather than white in the recessed portion of the fixture? Thank you.

Most of the recessed cans do have removeable trim so you can change the trim if need to.

Some are removed by spring clip and some are removed by unscrewing and some are removed by two screws.

The black interal trim is used to keep the glare reflection reduced.

Yes you can get white trim ring both do come in white or black sleeve depending on the type of bulb you use and how far back it set.

Merci,Marc
